The American The American Film Institute (AFI) is a non-profit organization in the United States, founded by the National Endowment for the Arts in 1967. 1987 began the AFI Film Festival; in 1998, to commemorate the centennial of American cinema, the AFI announced the Centennial Series, including the AFI Top 100 Films and the AFI Top 100 Stars.
