In 1987, the name was changed to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with headquarters in New York. The agency aims to increase knowledge and capacity in population activities to respond to national, regional and worldwide needs in population activities and family planning; in addition, it helps developing countries to solve population problems, such as providing financial assistance.
