UnitedThe United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) was originally a resolution passed by the General Assembly in 1966 urging the United Nations to provide technical support in population; it was later established as the Trust Fund for Population Activities in 1967; it was named the United Nations Population Fund in 1969 and began formal operations; it was officially renamed the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 1987. In 1987, the name was changed to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with headquarters in New York. The agency aims to increase knowledge and capacity in population activities to respond to national, regional and worldwide needs in population activities and family planning; in addition, it helps developing countries to solve population problems, such as providing financial assistance.
