The Boston Marathon is the world's first urban marathon and one of the top five marathons in the world (the other four are: London Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Chicago Marathon and New York Marathon). The Boston Marathon began on April 19, 1897, and is held annually on Patriot's Day (the third Monday in April) in Boston, Massachusetts, and is currently organized by the Boston Athletic Association.
