Franklin & Marshall College, a private liberal arts college with a long history in the United States, was founded in 1787 and is the 17th college in American history to be established. Named after Benjamin Franklin, an important leader of the American Revolution, and John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States, the college's strengths include biology, chemistry, government, geology, and business.
