LawrenceLawrence University is one of the nation's leading liberal arts colleges and one of the few schools in the country with a student-to-faculty ratio of less than 1:9. Founded in 1847 in Appleton, Wisconsin, it is best known for its School of Music and Department of Biology, and was ranked 59th in the 2015 ranking of U.S. liberal arts colleges; its 1962 alumnus, Thomas A. Steitz, won the 2009 Chemistry Award. Steitz was awarded the 2009 Chemistry Award.
