The World Bank Group (WBG) is a collective international organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. It was founded in 1944 to help overcome poverty by providing low-interest, interest-free loans and donations to developing countries with the goal of creating a world without poverty. Member countries of the World Bank are required to be members. Generally speaking, the World Bank is distinguished from the World Bank Group, which is usually a combination of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association; the World Bank Group also includes the International Finance Corporation, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and the International Centre for Investment Dispute Resolution.
