Detroit The Detroit Institute of Arts, established in 1885, is owned by the city of Detroit, and is known as the sixth largest museum in the U.S. In 2003, it was ranked as the second largest city-owned museum in the United States. There are more than 100 galleries in the museum, with an all-embracing collection of famous art treasures from around the world, including Auguste Rodin's sculpture "The Thinker" and Van Gogh's "Self-Portrait" and other artworks of note.
