The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is the leading institution for cancer research and funding in the United States, and is the oldest of the 28 institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). President Franklin D. Roosevelt approved the National Cancer Act in 1937, and the NCI was formally established.
