The Banque de France (also known as the Central Bank of France, French: Banque de France) is the central bank of France. The Bank of France was established on January 18, 1800 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the then First Ruler, with the original purpose of issuing banknotes to help the French economy escape the depression brought about by the French Revolution.
