The Golden Ice Axe (Piolet d'Or; Golden Ice Axe) is one of the most prestigious awards in mountaineering, known as the "Oscars of mountaineering", and is awarded by the French outdoor magazine Montagnes and the Groupe Groupe. It was founded in 1991 by the Groupe de Haute Montagne (GHM) and the Groupe de Haute Montagne (GHM) to recognize and reward Alpine climbs.
