Bitcoin (English: Bitcoin; abbreviation: BTC; currency symbol: ฿) is a widely used electronic currency, generated by open source P2P technology software, which was proposed by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. Bitcoin has an independence not found in other currencies and does not rely on central banks, government and corporate support and credit guarantees.
