The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is the UK government department dedicated to promoting overseas interests, formed by the merger of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Federal Office in 1968. It is headed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, or "Foreign Secretary," and is considered one of the "three most prestigious posts" along with the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Home Secretary.
