brief introduction

FutuRelearn: A Massive Open Online Course platform is a MOOCs launched by 12 universities in the UK, including the University of Leeds, King's University London, University of Birmingham and the UK Distance Learning Organisation. The MOOC platform is a joint initiative of 12 UK universities, including the University of Leeds, King's University of London, the University of Birmingham and the UK Distance Learning Organisation.

FutuRelearn has received curriculum support from the British Council, and with the addition of five new universities last month, Futurelearn has received content support from 19 educational organizations to date.

It is well known that the British Council has branches in more than 100 countries around the world and has a strong reputation at cultural festivals, specializing in British linguistics and cultural studies as well as literature and arts education. The exact form of collaboration is unclear; it may be provided by the British Council itself, or it may assist other schools in exporting content, but it is more likely to be a combination of both. The British Council is a nearly 80 year old organization with a stable worldwide presence and audience, which will be very helpful for Futurelearn's promotion and user acquisition. Martin Davidson, chairman of the British Council, said, "The partnership with Futurelearn will allow more and more people to learn about the Council and become our audience through the MOOC platform."

Just as U.S. online education startups have access to Ivy League quality content, online education in the U.K. can also provide quality courses. A spokesman for Futurelearn said it depends on the course, and each university can set its own fee model - perhaps for certificate delivery, or for exams, or for subscriptions. "This is the same as the early Internet, who all know that MOOCs will change the world, but what specific business model is feasible now no one knows."

The development of online education in the UK can also be said to have started soon, many of the old British universities need to cooperate with the US online platform - for example, the University of Edinburgh is to take and the US Coursera cooperation to complete the output of online content. Futurelearn's launch is to change this status quo, "and the UK's best universities together to write a new chapter in British higher education", according to the current development efforts, this may not be an exaggeration.
