The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), currently the Central Bank of India, was established on April 1, 1935 under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, and has been headquartered in Mumbai since its inception. At the time of its establishment, it was privately owned, but after the implementation of the nationalization policy in 1949, it became owned by the Government of India.
