Radikal, a liberal daily newspaper based in Istanbul, started publishing in 1996. Although its circulation was only about 25,000 according to 2013 statistics, Radikal is still considered one of the most influential newspapers in Turkey. The newspaper is not allied with a political faction, but is considered more of a social democratic and liberal newspaper, and was awarded the "Democratic Media Award" by the Turkish Democratic Association in 2004.
