Abraham-Louis Breguet was born in Neuchâtel, but spent most of his professional career in Paris. He studied every aspect of the watchmaking craft and his inventions had a profound impact on the watchmaking industry.

Breguet's career began with several groundbreaking inventions: The development of the highly successful perpétuelle self-winding pocket watch, the first use of a spring in a minute repeater, and the first anti-vibration device for the balance wheel axis.

Louis XVI and his queen Marie-Antoinette were among the earliest champions of Breguet timepieces. Each timepiece from the Breguet workshops is equipped with an original movement, reflecting the latest watchmaking techniques of the time. Most of these timepieces are equipped with Breguet's carefully modified lever or jeweled column escapements.

During the French Revolution, Abraham-Louis Breguet fled to Switzerland. -Breguet fled to Switzerland. Breguet designed a number of unique creations for his most prestigious clients, for example, he had already conceived a watch for Queen Caroline Mura of Naples in 1801, more than two centuries before the first watches were created. He was appointed by the Board of longitude and was a master watchmaker in the Navy. He also joined the Academy of Sciences and was awarded the Legion of Honor by King Louis XVIII.
