The Graduate Institute (The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies) is the world's first international-focused educational and research institution. Founded in 1927, the Graduate Institute is dedicated to the intersection of international relations and development studies and has a global reputation for excellence in teaching and research, with its main departments including Economics, International Relations and Political Science, and International Law. Kofi Annan, the seventh Secretary General of the United Nations, is a well-known alumnus.
