Mainichi Shimbun is Japan's oldest newspaper and a household name in Japan, formed by the merger of the Tokyo Mainichi Shimbun and Osaka Mainichi Shimbun in 1911. On December 30, 2013, Cheng Yonghua published an op-ed in the Mainichi Shimbun titled "The Wrong Place for a "Vow of No War"", which targeted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's misconceptions about his visit to Yasukuni Shrine.
