The Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), a corporate body dedicated to managing the affairs of professional baseball in Japan, was established in 1951, and its predecessor was the Nippon Professional Baseball League, which was founded in 1936; in 1939, the name was changed to "The NPB's main responsibility is to host the Japanese championship series and star games, with two major leagues, the Central League and the Pacific League.
