The University of Évora (Universidade de Évora) is located in the southeast of Lisbon. The University of Évora was built by order of King D. João III of Portugal to establish a theological university, and was later expanded in 1559, establishing a complete teaching system in addition to a medical school. Today the University of Évora has developed into one of the most prestigious public universities in Portugal.
