The University of Stellenbosch is located in the world's most beautiful wine-making town of Stellenbosch at the foot of Table Mountain, the second oldest town in South Africa, about thirty minutes drive from the town of Puttenden. Founded in 1866, the University is one of the oldest universities in South Africa, with a history of more than a century of development, the quality of education and academic research are among the world and Africa's leading. Stellenbosch University has four campuses (Stellenbosch, Tygerberg, Bellville Park and Saldanha), 10 faculties and 150 majors. Of the 24,348 students enrolled in 2002, there were 1,597 foreign students from 74 countries around the world.
