The University of Stellenbosch is located in the world's most beautiful wine-making town of Stellenbosch at the foot of Table Mountain, the second oldest town in South Africa, about thirty minutes drive from the town of Puttenden. Founded in 1866, the University is one of the oldest universities in South Africa, with a history of more than a century of development, the quality of education and academic research are among the world and Africa's leading. Stellenbosch University has four campuses (Stellenbosch, Tygerberg, Bellville Park and Saldanha), 10 faculties and 150 majors. Of the 24,348 students enrolled in 2002, there were 1,597 foreign students from 74 countries around the world. There are more than 2,500 faculty and staff members, including 138 professors and 900 teaching staff. There are also more than 50 research and service institutions. It is worth mentioning that the university has the highest percentage of graduate students of any university in South Africa, accounting for 38% of the total student body, and 8% of international students. The university is well-equipped with a modern library, international Internet access, and a language self-help library to facilitate international students.
