After arriving at your overseas destination, purchase a local SIM card.

Activate FlexiRoam by sending a text message from your new overseas number, then all calls to your domestic number will be forwarded to this new number. This way, you won't be charged for roaming and will only have to pay for local calls.

Now you will be charged the local rate for receiving or making domestic calls. This also means you don't have to tell anyone about your new international cell phone number, they can call you at your original domestic number as usual, and international roaming charges are eliminated.
