Kcg.go.kr:Korea Maritime The police department is the department that maintains maritime security in Korea, implements maritime search and rescue, and protects the marine environment, with the main tasks of: police patrol of Korean territorial waters; maritime search and rescue; investigation of maritime crimes; monitoring and prevention of marine pollution; and prevention of maritime military threats.

Korea Marine Police is composed of the Marine Police Agency Headquarters and The 13 marine police stations under the Marine Police Headquarters are located in Incheon, Taean, Gwangsan, Mokpo, Gwangdo, Yeosu, Jeju, Tongyeong, Busan, Ulsan, Pohang, Donghae and Sokcho, among which Busan Marine Police Station is the largest. Each police station is equipped with patrol ships and small patrol boats. The Marine Police Department has 71 police stations nationwide, including 258 offices.

The Korean Maritime Police has established a coastal surveillance system to closely monitor ship activities in the exclusive economic waters of western and southern Korea; it has implemented the exclusive economic waters correspondent system and the reporting incentive system to detect and grasp all kinds of maritime information in a timely manner; it has upgraded the equipment of police boats and deployed the special police team in the front. By updating the equipment of police boats and deploying special police teams, the capability of handling maritime emergencies has been improved. Once the marine police find foreign fishing vessels entering their exclusive economic waters, they will generally take immediate measures to "warn off" or "arrest by force".
