Kazan State University, one of the oldest universities in Russia, was founded in 1804, Kazan State University is the third university in Russia after Moscow University and St. Petersburg University. For many years Kazan State University has been the highest educational institution in the eastern part of Russia, it has become a center of Russian education and science and culture, and a certain academic school has been formed in the university. The university enjoys a high reputation in mathematics, chemistry, medicine, linguistics, geology, geobotany, etc. Famous scientists and inventors include Lobalevsky, who founded non-Euclidean geometry; Kraus, who discovered the chemical element ruthenium; Buterelov, who founded the theory of organic synthetic structures; Zavoisky, who invented electromagnetic resonance; Altshuler, who invented acoustic magnetic resonance; and many others. The school has trained a total of 4,000 students since its establishment. Since its foundation, the school has trained more than 70,000 specialists, including many famous scholars and social activists. Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy and Lenin studied at the school.
