The Power Wolf Band was created in 2003 by Charles and Matthew Greywolf The group is notable for having dark themes and imagery, including the use of corpse paint, gothic compositions and songs about Romanian werewolf and vampire lore and dark religious tales.

When the band was formed the members decided to take pseudonyms and build a backstory around those, brothers Charles and Matthew Gravelle had been playing together for years when they decided to create a band, so Powerwolf kicked in and soon the brothers added French drummer StéfaneFunèbre and German keyboardist Falk Maria Schlegel to the band, but couldn't find the right singer to complete the lineup.

At the same time the band started writing, during a holiday in Romania, Charles and Matthew met Attila Dorn, who studied classical opera at the Bucharest Conservatory and moved to the band's hometown of Saarbrücken, where he became the lead singer of Powerwolf.

With Dorn's love for the Romanian werewolf legend, the band created their debut album, " Return to the Bloodline", using these same legends as the basis for many of their lyrics. In 2007, they followed up with their second album, Lupus Dei, a conceptual photo shoot featuring the wolf as the main character as he goes from bloodlust to enlightenment in the fall.
