Griffith University was established in 1971 as an institution of higher learning funded by the Australian Federal Government. In addition to the traditional environmental sciences, Asian studies and other teaching and research strengths, the University's music program, hotel management programs and business programs are also recognized as Australia's premier. In recent years, the university's majors have also established their dominant position in teaching and research in areas such as biological sciences, information technology and multimedia arts.
