The University of Dublin, also known as the National University College Dublin or the National University of Ireland Dublin, or UCD or UC Dublin for short, is a world-renowned public research university located in Dublin, Ireland, with over 1,500 faculty members and 32,000 students. The university was founded in 1854 by John Henry Newman as its first president, and was renamed the National University of Dublin in 1997. The University of Dublin is one of four members of the Irish National University System, the others being the University of Cork, the University of Galway and the University of Maynooth.
